Band HS Band Newsletter
Elkhart BIG RED Band
May 2012 Newsletter

Last month of the year.  We only have a few things, but they are big ones...

May 4th is our Drum Major and Color Guard auditions.  We have 3 qualified drum major candidates and 4 color guard candidates.  Good luck to all of you...

Tuesday, May 8 is our annual Spring Concert.  We will host that concert in the HS cafetorium (just like the Winter Concert) at 7pm, so get there early to get a good seat.  This year's concert is shaping up to be a really good one...

Thursday, May 17 is our annual Student Recital.  Students work diligently on solos and ensembles for the UIL Solo & Ensemble contest, and the only people that get to hear their performance is a neutral judge that...let's face it...doesn't really care.  We started this to allow parents and fellow students to enjoy the fruits of their labors.  This recital will be in the HS cafetorium starting at 7pm.

Friday, May 18 is our annual Band Banquet.  All current Elkhart band students are encouraged to attend.  It's just a night of fun, awards, food and other stupid things that end the evening.  We've worked hard this year, so we want to meet and play hard as well...

On Sunday, May 27 we will leave for Austin for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest (TSSEC).  4 students this year qualified for TSSEC (Ashley Moreno, Megan Weber, Chance Coppedge, & Braxton Pew).  The contest wil start Monday morning, May 28.  The exact schedule is TBD.  Good luck, guys...

June is also fairly busy...here's a quick synopsis:  June 4-7:  Elkhart Drumline & Color Guard Camp, June 10:  All Disney luggage in the band hall, June 11-15:  HS Band Disney Trip.  I'll post a good summer newsletter when the school year gets closer to the end...

Well, there's a lot of information that needs to go out, and here is where most of it will be.  Please be sure to check the website regularly.  I update the calendar, itineraries, home page and this newsletter all the time.  This is where you can get 90% of your questions answered about what's going on in the band, so stay tuned.  You can also join our band FaceBook page for some really immature, and crazy things that you probably won't understand, but can comment on anyway.  I use it for some annoucements as well...

See you guys later...

J. Wes Canaday

The official BIG RED Band newsletter was started in March of 2009.  It is meant to establish better communication and provide more accurate information to the parents about what the HS band has been doing and what it is about to do.  A paper version is no longer available.  If you want a paper copy, this newsletter can be printed off with the printer icon in the upper left hand corner of this page.  If there is something else that would make communication better, please let me know.
