May’s student of the month

 


Senior Cam Reeves


Son of Quinton and Melissa Reeves, Cam is May’s student of the month. Cam likes to spend time with family and friends, play baseball, basketball, fish and hunt. Cam plans to continue his education at TVCC and then transfer to Dallas Baptist University to complete his education. Cam is very involved with his school and community; he is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers every chance he can. Cam was voted most likely to become a pro athlete by the student body. The reason Cam won the award is because he is so involved in school sports. Cam is in baseball, cross country, basketball, football, and track. English is Cam’s favorite subject, because he is so good at writing and reading. Cam likes Elkhart ISD because everyone knows everyone, and “we all get along.” Congratulations Cam!
Cam’s teachers had a variety of great things to say about this senior.
Mrs. Marlowe- “Cam Reeves is a former art student of mine.  I have watched him be a strong leader among his peers…doing what’s right even when other “are” looking.  We think of integrity as doing what’s right when no one else is looking and this is Cam too but to do what’s right even when all your peers are watching and putting pressure on…he chooses to do right.   My only regret is that I didn’t get to teach Cam another year.  He is one of those students whom I’ll remember.  I’m proud of Cam.”
Mrs. Reece- “Cam is a pleasure to have in class; he gets his work done and then some. He always has a pleasant attitude and never turns down a chance to help others in class. Cam is a great role model for the underclassmen, and will always take the high road.  Congratulations Cam, you deserve to be the student of the month!
Coach Smith- “Cam is smart and a very intense young man. He leads by example and other students respect him. He has a very bright future.”
Mrs. Coppedge- “Cam is one of those kids who can be easily overlooked because he quietly works and doesn’t cause any disruptions.  He tends to be the peacemaker when there is a problem. I know that Cam will be successful in his future because he has a strong set of morals, a great attitude and tenacity when he has a job to accomplish.” 
Mrs. Kapela- “Congratulations on student of the month.  Also, congratulations on your decision to attend college in the fall.  You have been a pleasure to teach.  You are a very pleasant young man and believe it or not, your positive attitude and "can do" attitude will be one of the components that lead to your eventual success.  Good Luck!”

 

Junior Larami McAdams

Daughter of Misty and Craig McAdams, Larami is May’s junior student of the month. Larami likes to play most sports, hang out with her friends, go to the lake, shop, and show steers. Larami plans on continuing her education after she graduate from Elkhart ISD, to becomea anesthesiologist. After she has settled in her career, Larami would like to get married and have children. Larami is very involved with school and her community; she makes blankets for the local nursing home, helps with bible school at church, and helped fix up a log cabin for her 4-H service project. Larami is in volleyball, softball, track, and basketball. Larami received Superlative Libero in volleyball, softball second team all- district catcher in 2010, and first team all- district catcher in 2011. Larami is a member of the Elkhart Interact Club, National Honor Society and Venturing. Larami's favorite class this year is college because they have to work independent. Larami likes Elkhart ISD because it’s so friendly and “she feels very comfortable here.”

Mr. Thomas- “Larami is a great young lady who is always a pleasure to have in class.  She will take on any task and always give it her all.
She brings her drive and ambition as an athlete to the classroom and tries just as hard there. 
Whether it be working on the computer, painting a project, or practicing her welding- she does her best.”
Coach Blackmon- “Larami is very self-motivated, which has allowed her to be very successful in her college courses this year, and will help her succeed in her future endeavors.”
Coach Huff – “Larami is a very dedicated and hardworking student and athlete.  She is a good role model for her peers and puts her heart in all she does.  I have known Larami since she was a little girl and it is great watching her grow up and turning into a wonderful young lady.”
Mrs. Lock- “Larami is a good student and always comes to class with a positive attitude.   She is one of my elementary student helpers and does a great job.”

Sophomore Hannah Leonard


Daughter of Beth and Robert Leonard, Hannah is May’s student of the month. Hannah likes to cheer just for fun. Hannah plans on continueing her education after she graduates from Elkhart ISD. Hannah is very involved with church, and she volunteers when she can. Hannah is a cheerleader and on the track team, she is also a member of the National Art Honor Society. Hannah’s favorite class this year is art, she likes the projects, and she likes the teacher. Hannah likes the teachers and staff at Elkhart ISD the best.
Hannah’s teachers had countless statements to say about this sophomore:
Mrs. Marlowe- “Hannah Leonard may seem quiet, but she is one of my most talented art 2 students.  She is soft spoken but speaks volumes with her actions.  Hannah is a beautiful young girl with integrity and I’m proud to call her one of mine.  I can’t wait to see her again next year in art 3.” 
Mrs. Absalom- “Hannah is such a sweet girl.  I’m glad that she received this honor because sometimes we overlook quiet and respectful students like her.  She puts a lot of effort into her assignments and is responsible.  She’s the kind of student that other students like to have as a partner because she’s so dependable.”
Mr. Mitchell- “Hannah is a fantastic student who always puts forth her best effort.  She tries hard to be successful and of course usually is.  She is a leader and a great role model for the other students.”
Coach Huff-  “Hannah is a sweet, hardworking young lady that will succeed in life.  She works hard in the classroom, athletics, and cheering.  I have enjoyed getting to know Hannah over the years.”
Mr. Dominguez- “Hannah is a very bright students, she is always ready to learn. It is a joy having her in my class.”

Freshmen Madison Mayhugh


Daughter Kim and Carlos Pharis, Madison is May’s freshmen student of the month. Madison likes to listen to music, watch TV, get on the computer, spend time with her family and friends, and just be outside. Madison plans on going to college after she graduates from Elkhart ISD, then marrying the man of her dreams and having a family. Madison is an active church member and also a member of FFA. Madison was a Regional Golf Qualifier this year, and received a medal for third place team. Madison’s favorite class this year is Ag, because she learns a lot about animals. Madison likes Elkhart ISD because she is receiving a great education.
Mrs. Nichols- “Madison has been a pleasure to have in class because she is a very sweet young lady.  Congratulations!”
Mr. Collins- “Quiet, reserved excellent student.”
Mrs. Stanfield- “I have had the honor and pleasure of coming to know Madison this year in my Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness class.  It is not a surprise that Madison was selected Student of the Month.  She has extremely admirable qualities in the classroom:  friendly, cooperative attitude, gets along with other students, accepts her responsibilities, and keeps track of her progress.  Madison is a terrific young lady and I’m so pleased to have a part in her education. Congratulations Madison!”

April Student Of The Month

 

 

Senior Melissa Foster
Daughter of Ronnie and Monica Foster, and Steve and Kim Gilbreath, Melissa is April's student of the month. Melissa likes to spend time with family and friends, sing in her church choir, listen to music, shop, read, watch movies and drink chocolate milkshakes with her best friends. Melissa will leave nine days after graduation, on June 4, for basic training with the United States Navy to pursue a career in aviation. Melissa is very involved with her community as well as school. Melissa volunteers with Interact by washing windows downtown, helping at the Crisis Center, and other various school activities. Melissa is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Student Council, Spanish Club, FFA, Rodeo Club, and Interact. Melissa has been voted student of the month every year of her high school career, Voted Most Intellectual, A&B Honor Roll, and Jr. Rotarian. Melissa's favorite class this year, well is a tie; it's between AP Spanish 4 and AP 3 English. "Both are always so much fun and have great teachers." Melissa likes that that teachers and administrators at Elkhart ISD are all very kind and encouraging people and that after years of homework, testing, and TAKS, she will finally get to say goodbye to her beloved school.

Mrs. Moon- "It has been a privilege having Melissa Foster as a student in my class for three years. She is a hard-working young woman with a delightful personality. One of Melissa's best qualities is her ability to organize. This skill that many students have trouble with in class. Melissa is also a leader in class. She is a take charge girl...she doesn't procrastinate. Melissa is very dependable and she is loyal to her friends and people that she cares about. I have enjoyed getting to know Melissa and I have really enjoyed kicking her booty in Spanish!!! JaJaJa! = HaHaHa"
Mrs. Fitts- "Melissa Foster is an energetic student who is willing to take on a job and see it to its end. She's dedicated, responsible, and has a cheerful attitude. Melissa will succeed in whatever she attempts in life. She's a pleasure to have as a student."
Mrs. Coppedge- "Melissa is a young lady with established goals and the motivation necessary to achieve them. It has been a pleasure to play a part in her education. She has worked diligently to be successful in her educational endeavors and I am sure she will find the same success in her future."
Mrs. Lock- "Melissa is a dedicated student. The teacher that she works with at the intermediate school as an aide, has nothing but great things to say about her. I have had the opportunity to teach Melissa in two different types of classes and she is always a positive role model in class. She has goals and she is striving to accomplish those goals."
Mr. Thomas- "Melissa is always willing to tackle any task. She works hard to find solutions to a problem, and will do what is takes to be successful."

Mrs. Kapela- "Melissa has been an AP English student of mine for the past two years. I am very proud of the strong, passionate, and dedicated young lady she has turned into. Furthermore, I am very excited to see what opportunities reveal themselves as the United States Navy realizes that they have a wonderful leader and thinker in their ranks. Ultimately, I predict that the word "officer" becomes a part of Melissa's name in the very near future. I am quite thankful that a young American of Melissa's caliber has decided to commit her time and devotion to serving and protecting our country. Good Luck Melissa! Also, don't be shy...let those Navy types know what it means to write killer AP essays. You are an awesome writer and analyzer of literature and life."

Mrs. Marlowe- "I'm so glad I got the opportunity to work with Melissa this year. She is a leader and talented artist. What I respect most about Melissa is that she lives her faith. I'm proud to have her as an art 1 students this year. I can't wait to see how she will live her life for God."




Junior Halen Quintana
Son of Melissa Quintana and Anthony, Halen is April's junior student of the month. Halen likes to listen to amazing music, hang out with his amazing friends, watch "The Hunger Games" a million times in a row, and write lyrics for songs. Halen plans to go to a junior college to finish his basics while studying music, then transfer to a four year college and major in studio recording and songwriting. Halen is very involved with his school and his community. He in in band, UIL spelling team, and also a member of FTA. Halen has volunteered for the Polar Express as an Elf, and really enjoys helping out at the intermediate school, teaching and tutoring students during Mrs. Lock's class. Halen has won many awards during his high school career: sixth place chair concert All Region Band, went to state Solo and Ensemble contest, three consecutive fifth place spelling medals, one second place team metal, one first place team metal and one second place medal. Humanities is Halen's favorite class this year because he has never had a class that allows him to think so deeply and has taught him not to conform to society, despite the amount of homework that is given. Halen likes the quality of the education and how successful the extracurricular actives are at Elkhart ISD.

Mrs. Fitts - "Halen Quintana is a quiet but determined student who excels in class. He is a gentleman and very respectful. He is dependable and has a good attitude."
Mr. Canaday- "Halen Quintana is a very dedicated, talented member the band. He is an All-Region Band member and one of our lead trumpet players. Halen exhibits a great attitude and work ethic, and if nothing else, can put up with a lot of irritating people."
Mrs. Lock- "Halen is a quiet but determined student. He always does what is asked of him and does it very well. He works at the intermediate as an aide and is very highly thought of by his teachers and by his peers."
Coach Smith- "Halen is a very quiet, but productive student. He is very diligent in his work and takes his school work very seriously. He is considerate to his classmates and his classmates have respect for him. Just a great young man."





Sophomore Karmen Holden
Daughter of Sharon Cochran and Michael Baker, Karmen is April's student of the month. Karmen likes to hang out with her friends and family. Karmen is still thinking about what she wants to do when she gets to college, but she knows that she will be a professional of some sort. Karmen did great in UIL this year; she placed first in Headline Writing at district, fourth in News Writing, fourth in Ready Writing, fifth in Editorial Writing, and sixth in Feature Writing. Karmen's favorite class this year is Spanish 2 with Mr. Dominguez, because he is an awesome teacher. Karmen likes how the Elkhart ISD teachers are involved and how they care about their students.

Mr. Dominguez- "Karmen Holden is a great student. She is always polite and ready to learn and her good sense of humor is a plus. It is a joy having Karmen in my class. "
Mrs. Reece- "Karmen is a fantastic student who is always ready for a challenge; she is self-motivating along with having a great sense of student ethics. This is Karmen's first year to do journalism UIL and she really has "kicked it".



Freshmen Garrett Flanagan
Son of Darrell and Peggy Flanagan, Garrett is April's freshmen student of the month. Garrett enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding four wheelers. Garrett is in football, powerlifting, and track. He has received awards in powerlifting and track. He is a member of FFA and plans to attend college to get a degree in Wildlife Biology. Garrett volunteers at the local cemetery helping with clean up and maintenance. Garrett's favorite class this year is Ag., because he is continuously learning new things about metal working. Garrett likes the teachers at Elkhart ISD the best.

  March's Student of the Month

 

Senior Kaitlyn Sloan

Daughter of Terry and Glenda Sloan, Kaitlyn is March’s student of the month. Kaitlyn likes to hang out with friends, read and write. Kaitlyn is many clubs and organizations in Elkhart. She is an active member of Interact, National Honor Society and Vice President of Quill & Scroll Honor Society. Kaitlyn has received many awards though-out her high school career, some of the awards are Student of the month, Rotary Youth Leadership award and voted most likely to be successful.  Kaitlyn enjoys helping her school and her community, she readily volunteers any time she can. She has given blood at the local blood drives, brought cheer and happiness to the local nursing home residents, helped out at the Polar Express, and Santa’s Workshop, and sponsored a can food drive for local churches. Kaitlyn enjoys being an office aid this year because she gets to show new students round and answer phones. After high school, Kaitlyn will attend college to major in criminal justice and minor in psychology.  Kaitlyn enjoys going to Elkhart High School, she really likes all the people that go to Elkhart High.
Kaitlyn’s teachers had a variety of great things to say about this senior.
Mrs. Stanfield- “Kaitlyn Sloan is a young lady whom I have had the honor and pleasure of coming to know within the past school year.  She is a remarkably mature lady who has consistently displayed the admirable quality of leadership in addition to maintaining a very strong work ethic.  I am confident that her friendly manner, good character, and dedication to positive life goals will enhance her ability to reach whatever endeavor she chooses to pursue.  I wholeheartedly believe that Kaitlyn is very deserving of this honor.  Congratulations to an exceptional student at Elkhart High School!”
Mr. Mize- “Kaitlyn is a courteous, pleasant, hard-working individual. She is the embodiment of the “golden rule” and being a compassionate person. On several occasions I have witnessed her go out of her way to help another student without being asked, pick up trash, or other selfless action. She always gets her work done on time and in excellent condition. In a lab group, she will invariably be the leader.”
 Mrs. Reece- “Unfortunately I don’t have Kaitlyn this year, but she has been an excellent student in journalism. Kaitlyn is the vice-president of Quill & Scroll, and regularly attends all the meeting. Kaitlyn is always coming up ideas to help others. Kaitlyn always has a smile on her face and treats everyone with respect and kindness.  Kaitlyn is an exceptional writer; she has attended the UIL state meet for journalism. Kaitlyn will exceed everyone’s expectations.
Mrs. Kapela- “This is my first year to have the opportunity to teach Kaitlyn Sloan.  She joined AP English IV this year and has excelled beyond my expectations.  She is a well-rounded student and expresses, constantly, the desire to shoot for the stars when it comes to her career of the future.  Furthermore, Kaitlyn seems in tune to who she is and who she will become.  As teachers, we constantly observe students that are so worried and bothered by fitting into some kind of unspoken norm of the their campus or community.  Kaitlyn is solid and honest to herself and others.  As far as I have observed, she doesn't put up pretense...she just takes care of her business of learning.  Ultimately, Kaitlyn Sloan could easily be any teacher's "student of the month" every month. Kaitlyn, I am proud to have the opportunity to be your English teacher this year.”


Junior Jessica Duke 

Daughter of Tom and April Duke, Jessica is March’s junior student of the month.  This is Jessica’s second time to be picked for student of the month in her high school career. Jessica likes to listen to music, draw, watch movies and just hang out with friends. Jessica is a member of the Big Red Band, second chair alternate, and plays the Euphonium. Jessica is a member of the National Honor Society and an active member in her church. Jessica likes to help out at her church whenever she can, either by helping in the office or playing music for her church. After high school Jessica plans to finish her basics at a local community college, then go on to the film academy in L.A. to become a director.  Humanities are Jessica’s favorite class this year, because it expands her mind and allows her “think outside of the box.” Jessica likes the teachers at Elkhart ISD the best, because “they are great at what they do, and also a lot of fun.”

Mrs. Lock- “Jessica is a very talented and creative student.  She has set goals for herself and I am sure she will reach them.”
Mr. Canaday- “Jessica Duke is a very talented band student.  She is hardworking and keeps a good attitude all the time.  She continues to improve year after year through hard work and dedication.  Her talent and leadership are very important to the BIG RED Band.” 
Mrs. Kapela- “Jessica Duke is in my Humanities I class and definitely fits the definition of the student that should, indeed, be taking such a course.  Jessica has proved herself, academically, in the class and has also demonstrated an earnest desire to link what she learns in her studies to the "bigger" picture of the world and her own life.  So many students have been conditioned to just study for whatever test lurks around the next corner and exert no effort to make the information workable.  However, Jessica insists on finding a way to make her knowledge working knowledge for future use.  Congratulations Jessica and I look forward to travelling with you to France next year!”

Sophomore Cindy Mays

Daughter of Kim Mays, Cindy is March’s student of the month.  Cindy likes to listen to music, and practice UIL activities. Cindy has already place second in an Editorial Writing meet, on her first try. Cindy is in many clubs and organization at Elkhart, one of her favorite is Interact. Cindy plans to attend college once she graduates from Elkhart High School. Cindy’s favorite class this year is English with Mrs. Absalom because she is funny and makes the class think at a deeper level. Cindy likes the teachers at Elkhart the best because they really care about each student.
 Cindy’s teachers couldn’t stop bragging on this sophomore.
Mrs. Moon – “Cindy Mays is a delightful student in my class.  She has a fun sense of humor and she is a leader among her peers.  She works well in groups and she also keeps up with her lessons.  Cindy is a joy to have in class.”
Mrs. Lock- “Cindy is the student that other students look to for help.  She is also the student that everyone wants to see perform in our class skits.  I have no doubt that she will accomplish the goals that she has set for herself.”
Mr. Gazaway- “Cindy Mays is a very intelligent and articulate young lady.  She is very attentive to detail and is an excellent student.  It has been my good fortune to be associated with Cindy in not only the classroom, but also in UIL activities.  Cindy is an excellent student and very conscientious in all her activities.  It is a joy to have Cindy in class; her bubbly personality is infectious and warms all those around her.”
Mr. Thomas- “Cindy is fun to have in class.  She has a quick wit and is a fast learner.
She will try anything asked of her and does her best at each task.” 

Freshmen Leslie Nolan


Daughter of Rachel and Tim Nolan, Leslie is March’s freshmen student of the month. Leslie likes to read books, practice playing her flute, and playing tennis. Leslie is in the Big Red Band and tennis. Leslie‘s favorite class is band because it’s fun and she always learns a lot. Leslie is an active member of the student council, and enjoys helping others.  Leslie wants to attend college, once she finishes high school. Leslie likes the people at Elkhart ISD, “they are the best.”
Leslies’ teachers had an abundant of things to say about this freshman.
Mrs. Nichols- “Leslie Nolan is a very motivated, hard-working student who “knows her stuff.”  She has been a pleasure to have in class and offers a lot to our class discussions.”
Mr. Canaday- “Leslie Nolan is a very pleasant student to teach.  She's always smiling and willing to do the hard work that band requires without complaint.” 
Mr. Collins- “Great student, self-motivator who has all the tools to succeed in life.”   
Mrs. Reece –“Leslie is a great student, always trying her hardest and always getting her work done and handed in on time. She is a sweet girl, who will prove to be an eminent student in her school career.”
Mrs. Marlowe- “Leslie Nolan is one of my Tennis players.  She is new to tennis, but shows promise.  She is competitive and works hard to improve.  I’m looking forward to see what she will do in the coming years.”

 

 

 

 

Februarys Student of the month

 

Senior Amanda Ham


Daughter of Stephen and Tammy Ham, Amanda is February’s student of the month. Amanda likes to ride horses, barrel race, go hunting, ride four wheelers and hang out with Cole. Amanda helps with “Barrel Racers for Christ” and also participates in it. Amanda is very involved with school and her community.  Amanda participates in cross country, track, FFA, rodeo, and BRFC. Amanda has been a state qualifier for track for the last three years and placed fifth, tenth place medalist and regional champion. She also has been a state qualifier for track for the last three years, which she placed second. Amanda also broke the school record in pole vaulting and the 800m.  Amanda’s favorite class this year is outdoor education, and she really likes Elkhart ISD because all the teachers really care about each student and really understand most of the time. After Amanda graduates from Elkhart ISD, she plans to get into the medical field by getting her phlebotomy certificate then later going back to get her LVN.
Amanda’s teachers had a variety of great things to say about this senior.

Mrs. Marlow- “Amanda is a hard working young artist.  She does amazing work and she is a joy to be around.  I’m so glad I have had the opportunity to work with Amanda.  She is beautiful on the inside and out!”

Mrs. Willis- “Amanda is a well-rounded student, enjoying a variety of activities. When she was in my class, she was a joy to have. She works very hard and is proud of her school work. She has achieved a variety of awards, through track, cross-country track and Ag. She is a good photographer, having bought one of her photographs at the Art Show last year. She is also active in her church youth group. Her plans are to be a Phlebotomist and LVN after graduating from high school. Thank-you Amanda for the opportunity to teach you.”

Mr. Thomas- “It has been a pleasure to have Amanda as a student since she was in middle school.  She is a hard worker and has a great attitude. She is always willing to do whatever is asked of her- and always does it with a smile.  Having dealt with Amanda in class and at extra-curricular functions, I have had the opportunity to see that she is a mature, responsible young lady who is well liked and respected among her peers. She is not only a good student, but also a great person.”

Coach Huff- “Amanda Ham is a great student, athlete and young lady.  She is a hard worker on and off the track.  I have had the pleasure of coaching Amanda for 6 years.  During this time she has been very successful.  Amanda has gone to state cross country 3 out of 4 years and represented Elkhart very well.  She has also gone to the state track meet 2 out of 3 years and I have total confidence that she will make it to the state meet again this year.    She is a wonderful role model for the students here at Elkhart.  Amanda has stepped up and taken the role of becoming our leader in girls’ athletics.  She does this in a way that the girls respect her and enjoy getting to know her.  I am very proud of Amanda and know that she will reach the goals she has set for herself. Good Luck Amanda in all that you do.”

Mrs. Kapela- “Congratulations, Amanda.  You are a well-deserving recipient of "Student of the Month."  For those of you that may not know what Amanda is all about, I am very pleased to say she is a lifetime learner.  Even if Amanda hasn't realized that she already does this, I see Amanda always wondering about the world and the "what-ifs" and I am very thankful for individuals of her caliber.  So often, in our modern world, people of all ages, fail to see that there is always a bigger picture they are involved in or impacting in some way.  Amanda has demonstrated each six weeks that she gets why we are studying the literature we are studying and that a greater message than just plot summary is available through these words.  Now, Amanda, please, help the current "thinkers" of the world encourage those afraid of such an action to venture out in all realms of thought.”

Mrs. Stanfield- “It’s a new semester and Amanda Ham has been in my economics class only a few weeks, but it’s easy to see why she deserves the student of the month award.  She possesses many talents and exemplifies the qualities of a first-class leader.  She is friendly, cooperative, and well-liked by her peers.  Amanda is a dedicated student who concentrates on both academic and extra-curricular aspects of her life.  With her determination, I feel strongly that she will achieve most any goal she might set for herself.  (Congratulations Amanda!)”

 

Junior Jayme Irvin


Daughter of Robert and Cheryl Pate, and Jimmy and Dana Irvin.  Jayme is February’s junior student of the month.  Jayme likes to cheer, dance, listen to music, watch movies and go to Asian City with Aerial and Ryan.  Jayme is very active in school, and her community. She volunteers with Mrs. Kapela’s class cleaning the teachers’ lounge, volunteering with art projects for NAHS, and also helping on the Polar Express.  Jayme is a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Interact, and the Spanish Club.  This is Jayme’s second year to be on the varsity cheer team, and she received All American Cheerleader at camp last summer. After high school Jayme wants to attend college to become a nurse for labor and delivery, because she loves the little babies.  Jayme’s favorite class this year is college.  “ Because you can do it on your own time and Coach Blackmon is cool.”  Jayme likes being in a small school because you know everyone and she likes all of the teachers.

Mrs. Moon- “Jayme Irvin is a very sweet young lady.  I have really enjoyed getting to know more about her this year.  She has a delightful personality.  Jayme is very conscientious about her grades and she keeps up with her assignments.  She is a very hard worker in class and she works well with her peers.  It is a joy having Jayme in class.:)”

Mrs. Lock- “Jayme is a very dedicated, hard-working student.  She works with Mrs. Cline at the elementary as an aide during my education class.  She always gives 100%, whatever is asked of her.”

Mr. Mitchell – “Jayme is a respectful and hardworking student who approaches each assignment with thoughtfulness and completeness.  She also strives to achieve a sense of total understanding when completing laboratory investigations.”


Coach Blackmon- Jayme has been a pleasure to have in class; she is very responsible and hard-working.  I believe she will be very successful in all that she attempts in the future.
Mrs. Marlowe- “She is sweet, kind, hardworking and a very talented artist.  I’m so glad she is in my art class.  I’m looking forward to having her again next year.  Because she is one of my NAHS students I have gotten to know her a little better and I just love her.” 

 

 

Sophomore Catie Bridges
Daughter of Emily and Matt Bridges, Catie is February’s student of the month.  Catie likes to play in just about any sport, hang out with her friends, watch movies, and ride four wheelers. Since Catie likes sports so much, it comes as no surprise that she has received many awards in sports. Catie is involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. She was regional qualifier in 2011, in the 800m and the 1600m and second team basketball 2010- 2011. Catie is a member of FCA and has helped with Christmas presents to the local nursing home. Yearbook is Catie’s favorite class this year because she can take pictures, and create pages. Catie likes Elkhart ISD, and her favorite thing about Elkhart is her friends.  In the near future Catie plans to graduate high school then attend Texas A&M to become an orthodontist.
 Catie’s teachers couldn’t stop bragging on this sophomore.

Mrs. Moon – “I have enjoyed having Catie in class this year.  She is a very hard worker.  She is prepared for class and she keeps up with her homework and her notebook.  It has been a pleasure getting to know this young lady.”

Mrs. Reece- “This is my second year with Catie, and it has been and always is a pleasure to have her in class. She is always working hard, and willing to help other students at any time.  Catie is a quick learner, and has a great attitude.

Mrs. Absalom- “Catie works hard in class and can be counted on to be responsible in completing her assignments.  Even though sometimes she might miss class for an athletic event, she will be sure to make up her work so that she can maintain her grades.  Her teachers and her teammates can depend on her.”

Coach Huff-  “Catie is a great student and student athlete.  She knows what she wants and holds nothing back to get it.  She is a hard worker in the classroom and on the field, track or in the gym.  Catie is only a sophomore but I know that she will go far in life.” 

 


Freshmen James Mays
Son of middle school principal Ron and Wendy Mays, James is February’s freshmen student of the month. James loves to relax and watch the “Dukes of Hazzard” on TV.  James also loves to play sports; he is on the basketball team, and on the baseball team.  So it makes sense that Athletics is James favorite class this year, James said it “It makes him work hard.”  James has received awards in both sports – Baseball and Basketball. James loves Elkhart and the best part about the school is the teachers.  James likes to do mission work with his church. After James graduates high school he wants to go to college and find a job.
James’ teachers had an abundant of things to say about this freshman.

Mrs. Nichols-  “James always has a smile on his face and is a pleasure to have.”

Mr. Mitchell- “James is a great student who works hard to be successful.”

Coach. Smith- "James is a very well-rounded, excellent student.  He is a pleasure to teach in class and coach in baseball, and he has a terrific future ahead of him."

Mr. Quisenberry –“Always presents a nice even disposition and comes into class everyday with his infectious smile that quickly spreads throughout the class. His sense of humor plays well into his theatre performances and he is a delight to be around. Always polite and respectful, many students would do well to follow his example.

 

 

Januarys Student of the month 

Senior Shayna He’Alohaleimakamai Perkins

Daughter of Sondra Huffines, Kimo and Christy Perkins, and Terry and Mandy Huffines, Shayna is January’s student of the month. Shayna likes to hang out with friends and family, swim, ride four wheelers, watch movies and learn more about God. Shayna is very involved with school and the community. Shayna is the 2012 yearbook editor, president of Quill & Scroll honor Society, treasurer in Interact, and a member of the National Honor Society. Shayna is also the head cheerleader for the varsity cheerleader squad.  Shayna is very committed to volunteering in her community; she has helped with Elkhart nursing home, the Polar Express, Mini Cheer Camp, and Little Diggers.  Shayna participates in as many sports as possible,  varsity volleyball two years, varsity softball four years, varsity track three years, and  varsity cheer three years.  Shayna has received many awards and honors, 2010 most improved 2011 second team all- district left fielder, 2010 honorable mention, and 2011 superlative setter in district.  Shayna plans to finish her basics at TVCC then move to Houston to start college at Commonwealth Institute for funeral services. Graduate and then start her own business.  Shayna’s favorite class this year is yearbook with Mrs. Reece.” Because I love to design and be original and creative”.  Shayna also enjoys Mrs. Coppedge’s class, because it’s close to want she wants to do in life.  Shayna likes the new high school and how close all the teachers are really close like family, which increases students ability to learn.

Mrs. Reece- “This is Shayna’s  second year in yearbook, and she has absolutely exploded with confidence and self-assurance. Shayna has taken her role as editor to the upmost stance. She is always on task, helpful to other staff members, and is always aware of deadlines, page restrictions, and tries to head off problems before hand. Shyana is a true leader and organizer. 

Mrs. Huff- “Shayna is a very hard working young lady.  She has a good head on her shoulders and knows what she believes in.  Shayna is very active inside of school and out. Along with all of her school activities, which there are many, she also holds a part time job that keeps her very busy.  One of Shayna’s best quality is you can tell her to do something and you know it will get done.  That is a great quality to have.   Good luck with your future Shayna.”

Mrs. Coppedge- “Shayna is always ready to learn and works hard in class.  In lab, she excels and is always ready to help others who are struggling.  It is a pleasure to have Shayna in my class” 

 

Junior Kelsey Hubert

Daughter of Lynn and Tabitha Hubert, Kelsey is January’s junior student of the month. Kelsey favorite thing to do is listening to music! It makes her feel joyful inside. If life was a musical, Kelsey would be okay with that. Kelsey is very involved with school, community and church. Kelsey is on the varsity cheer team, and the UIL journalism team. Kelsey is also in the church youth group and the church praise team. Kelsey’s favorite class this year is Pre- Cal with Mr. Gazaway. “I’ve learned so much in his class, but we have fun at the same time”.  After high school Kelsey plans to attend college and become a nurse or an elementary teacher.  Kelsey really likes Elkhart ISD, and the college prep program that it has. The prep program has helped Kelsey pay attention to deadlines for test dates, and it helps narrow down college selections that she might have considered attending later. “ It’s a very helpful program to be able to use.”

She is a leader in the classroom.  Her peers look up to her.  Kelsey has a wonderful personality and attitude.  Even when the assignments are tough, she gives 100 percent.  It is a pleasure having Kelsey in class for another year.” 

 

Mrs. Lock- “Kelsey is a wonderful student.  She is very conscientious, and in my education class she serves as an aide at the primary several days each week.  I have really enjoyed having her in class.  She works with Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Hill at the primary, and they love having her as a helper.”

                                       

Mrs. Reece “Kelsey is a joy to have in class; she is always very involved, and very helpful to other students. Kelsey is a very good writer, and a great student with a positive attitude.

 

Mrs. Stanfield- “Is has been a pleasure to have Kelsey Hubert is my Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness class second period. 
She is a friendly, conscientious student.  She has many characteristics of a successful young lady
(industrious, trustworthy, reliable, and of good character).  Kelsey’s parents have given her a solid
foundation – I’m sure she will continue to make positive life choices in the future, too.  Kelsey is very
deserving of this award.

Sophomore Megan Weber

Daughter of Dayne and Nicci Weber, Megan is January’s student of the month.  Megan loves to doodle, browse YouTube, walk in the woods, read, and read some more. Megan likes to read her bible and pretty much anything else that she can. Megan likes anything to do with art, decorating, eating, sleeping, shopping, and of course BAND! Megan plans to finish high school then attend TVCC for two years, then attend a university that has a great art program.  Megan is very involved in band and loves everything about band. She has won some metals for band. Of course her favorite class this year is BAND! Because band is so awesome! Megan likes Elkhart; the best thing about Elkhart is of course the BAND! Did I mention that Megan really likes BAND!

Megan’s teachers couldn’t stop bragging on this sophomore.

Mr. Smith "Megan is a terrific student who marches to the beat of her own drummer.  She will do well in all her endeavors."

 Mr. Canaday- “Megan Weber is a very talented, hardworking student.  Through her hard work, she was rewarded by being selected to the Region 21 All-Region Band on alto saxophone.  Megan is always smiley and keeps a good attitude.

 Mrs. Fitts “Megan Weber is a very talented student.  Her artistic skills are superb.”

Daughter of Blanca and Luis Banuelos, Dulce is January’s freshmen student of the month. Dulce is in band and tennis this year. Dulce really enjoys band because she enjoys playing music for her family and friends. Dulce is very involved with band, tennis and her church. Dulce wants to finish high school and then go to a nearby college, so she can stay close to her family. Dulce likes Elkhart ISD because of the great, understanding, and caring teachers. 

Dulce’s teachers had an abundant of things to say about this freshman.

Mr. Canaday- “Cristal Banuelos is a quiet, reserved, confident student.  She is very talented and is a very good musician for the band.  Cristal always has a great attitude and is a joy to be around.”

 Mrs. Stanfield – “It is a privilege to have Crystal Banuelos is in my 2nd period Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness Class.
