Jordan Farley

Jordan is the son of Darren and Genny Farley. His special interests are baseball, fishing, hunting, and camping. Jordan helps our community by doing volunteer work at the Eagle Crest Therapeutic Center. Jordan’s extracurricular activities include Future Farmers of America, Varsity Baseball, Interact Club, and National Honor Society. His favorite thing about Elkhart High School is the baseball team, and his future plans include attending college to become a land surveyor.

Teacher Comments

Mrs. Kapela – “Have you ever taken a moment to listen to Jordan Farley as he speaks?  His voice says it all.  He is calm, cool, and collected.  I envy his skills to stay content and yet, at the same time, understand the need to set goals and achieve them.  At the very beginning of the year, Jordan recounted his experience of travelling to Europe.  I loved hearing his description of what he had seen.  I'm sure everyone will agree that Jordan is a born story teller, a cowboy that everyone can see sitting around the campfire as he tells of his adventures with Buckingham Palace's royal guards as he tries making these famous symbols of England laugh.  I was so very impressed to see how Jordan had taken the experience of travel and then continued to feel content with what his town had to offer him.  This travel experience proved to Jordan that the possibilities for his future were endless, but he wanted to enjoy the here and now.  Even if the here and now means writing his English IV research paper over the California Gold Rush.  Jordan may not relish some of the tasks he must complete in English IV, but,  he is able to smile and tell me politely...in his best Southern drawl...that he will do the best he can.  Little does he know, although I hope he is starting to figure this out, that "the best he can do" is looking pretty good!

 Congratulations, Jordan!”

Mrs. Stanfield – “Jordan is an outstanding young man who puts all his energy and resources into every endeavor.  He is self-motivated and intelligent.  He will be a success in whatever field he chooses to pursue.  It is a pleasure to have him in my economic class.”

Teacher Comments

Mrs. Stanfield – “Phillip Flesner is a young man whom I have had the honor and pleasure of coming to know within the past school year.  He is a remarkably mature young man who has consistently displayed the admirable quality of leadership in addition to maintaining a very strong work ethic.  I am confident that his friendly manner, good character, and dedication to positive life goals will enhance his ability to reach whatever endeavor he chooses to pursue.  I wholeheartedly believe that Phillip is very deserving of this honor.”

Mr. Mize – “Although I haven't had Philip in class since his sophomore year, he was always a great student.  I hear from other teachers that he is continuing to perform at his best in all his tasks. Talking with him even now, he demonstrates a willingness to work and achieve, all with a devil-may-care outlook on life.  I wish him success and feel confident that he will find it.”

Mrs. Salazar – “Phillip is a fun-loving, crazy learner who is interested in many of life's deeper ideas.  He encourages the thought process among his peers by asking thought-provoking questions and spurring new ideas.  He makes each class period an adventure and is an entertaining speech student who always delivers a new approach to the presentations and activities in class.  Congrats Phillip - you made it!!!”

Ben is the son of David and Pat Platt. In his free time he likes to go kayaking, play ping pong, and go creeking. He is involved with his church, and has helped with raising money through bake sales. Ben is a member of the Drama Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Interact Club, Academic UIL, and Spanish Club. He has received 2nd Place at Region in Literary Criticism making him a state qualifier, 1st Place in Current Events, and 1st Place in Academic Olympics Team. His favorite thing about Elkhart High School is the teachers. In the future Ben plans to attend UT at Austin or Duke to pursue a degree in law.

Teacher Comments

Mrs. Absalom – “Ben has a great sense of humor and is a pleasure to coach in UIL.  Although I've never taught him in class, I've been impressed with his comments during our practices.  Not many students can make it to state their first year in an academic event.”

Mrs. Salazar –  Ben is one of the most original and entertaining students I have met.  He has a natural ability to draw others in to the fun he creates.  He has stepped out as a leader in our extra-curricular events and has served as an officer in several clubs.  Although he has proven a weakness in the sport of putt-putt golf, his abilities are evident in both school and UIL participation.  Fun follows Ben, and his originality and enthusiasm are fresh and enjoyable characteristics.  He is a student to watch - we will see his name in lights one day...guaranteed!  Congrats Ben - well done!”

His favorite thing about Elkhart High School is the baseball team. Zach lists another interesting fact about himself as “I like to play sports.” Is it any surprise that playing college baseball is in his plans for the future?

Teacher Comments

Mrs. Salazar – “Zach is a wonderful young man.  In Speech, Zach was always willing to put forth an honest effort and show his dedication and respect toward the subject and assignments.  His peers enjoyed his subtle humor and he added a distinct quality of fun to the class.  Congratulations Zach - well deserved!”

Mrs. Wilson – “Zach Thomas is a polite, soft-spoken, diligent young man.  I truly enjoy knowing him and watching him learn.”

May Sophomore Student of the Month

 Leslie McCann

Leslie is the daughter of David and Lisa McCann. In her free time she likes to shop, tan, ride four wheelers, and hang out with family and friends. She is a very “laid back person” and enjoys going to church, being with Will, babysitting, riding horses, fishing, and going to rodeos. Leslie has contributed in her community by helping with the school blood drives. She is a member of the National Honor Society and received honors for All “A” Honor Roll. Leslie is also very proud to now have her driver’s license. Her favorite things about Elkhart ISD are the equal opportunities and all of her friends. In the future Leslie plans to become a dental hygienist and start a family.

Teacher Comments

Mrs. Absalom – “Leslie has a ready smile and is a very responsible student who cares about quality in her work.”

Mr. Mize – “Leslie always has a pleasant, can-do attitude (even this late in the year). She is a leader in any group she works with and is a great role model to other classmates. I predict success for her in future endeavors should she continue in this way.”

Mr. Mitchell – “Leslie McCann is a student who is very deserving of this award.  All year long, I kept thinking she's got to be the next one to receive student of the month honors.  She is extremely hard working, gets along great with her peers and makes my job that much easier.  She is, I believe, the only 10th grade student this year to be on the all A honor roll for each 6 weeks period.  This young lady has a very bright future in whatever she chooses to pursue.”

Mrs. Salazar – “Ben is one of the most original and entertaining students I have met.
