How are the students going to get books to read and how are we going to make sure the books are at the correct level for them to read?

Here are a few online links to help students with reading:

Will the students be able to get all their work so that they're not behind on school work? Also do you know if the school is going to open on April 6th, or is the school going to remain closed for the rest of the school year?

Students are expected to complete assignments.  We will review information related to COVID-19 and make a determination regarding next steps and potential opening or extended closure and relay information on March 31st.

Do we have any information regarding Dual Credit courses for high school students?

Dual Credit courses will resume on March 30th.

What do we need to do about turning in pre-registration forms for freshmen?

You may drop off your completed form at the pick-up line at the Middle School from 11:00-12:30 on any Monday.  Please email our HS counselor, Kim Stanaland,  for any pre-registration questions:  kstanaland@elkhartisd.org

How will closures affect our Seniors and graduation?

As of this time, graduation is still planned for May 29, 2020.

How can we access HS assignments with technology?

Teachers will post lessons/assignments on the EHS webpage- https://hs.elkhartisd.org

Under the “Students” tab, and “Parents” tab, you will find the Teachers’ Web Pages” tab. From there, you can access the needed teacher’s web page to access assignments/lessons/activities.

What can we do regarding school supplies?

Our local area churches will be at the end of the pick-up area at the MS and Elementary campuses to give supplies to those who need them.

If you have questions during the time of facility closure to the public, please email the questions to

We will begin monitoring and responding to questions Monday, March 23rd. We will develop a list of frequently asked questions and post appropriate responses. We are in continuous communication with the Texas Education Agency and health authorities. As we are updated by other agencies, the information shared with us may have a direct impact on a question asked and a response previously provided. Be patient with us, as information changes.

Dear Elkhart ISD Families:

I want to sincerely thank you for your patience as we move through this uncharted territory of
school closure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Our top priority is the
safety and well-being of all within EISD, and we remain vigilant in monitoring the spread of
COVID-19 in Anderson County, across the state, nation and world.

While there are no known cases in Elkhart or Palestine at this time, Anderson County could
experience community spread. Our facilities will be closed through April 5th based on
guidance from state leaders and public health officials. Our goal, as always, is student, staff
and community health and safety. We will reassess on March 31st and information will be
posted on the website at 3:00 PM.

We are working diligently to address multiple issues to ensure that our students have meals
available, and that learning continues.

Sack lunches will be provided beginning March 24th from 11:00 to 12:30pm. Parents and
students can pick up lunches from the Intermediate Campus Bus Lane and the Middle School
Campus Parent Drop-off near the gym.

Distance Learning
Although students are not in school, this is not an extended holiday. Students will be working
throughout the week(s) on lessons and activities so that their education continues with little
disruption as mandated by the Texas Education Agency. It is important that parent support
student learning especially during these times while we wait to re-open schools. We are asking
that you provide structured time daily for student(s) to complete work. We are also asking that
you carve out time requiring students to read and share with you their learning from their

Elkhart ISD at home instruction and assignments will be distributed by your student’s campus
administrators by March 24th through email.
We know that not all students have access to the technology needed. Therefore, hard copies of
instructional materials will be available March 24th from 11:00 to 12:30 PM at the lunch pickup
